Parents Association
NAME:
The name of the Association is Scoil Cholmcille SNS Parents Association.
2. OBJECTIVES:
The objectives of the Parents’ Association are to advance the education of the students of Scoil Cholmcille SNS by providing and assisting in the provision of facilities for education at the school, not normally provided by the Parish Contribution or the Department of Education. As an ancillary there to and in furtherance of this objective the Parents Association may:
(a) foster more extended relationships between the staff, parents and others associated with the schools, and
(b) engage in activities, which support the schools and advance the education of the students attending it.
3. MEMBERSHIP:
All parents or legal guardians of students attending the school shall be automatic members of the Association
4. AFFILIATIONS:
This Association is affiliated to National Parents Council.
5. GENERAL MEETINGS:
(i) The Annual General meeting shall be held during October of each year.
(ii) The executive committee shall call extraordinary General Meetings when the executive committee deems it desirable or when a written request to call an Extraordinary General Meeting is received by the Executive Committee, signed by at least 50 parents.
(iii) Public Notice shall be given fourteen days in advance of a General Meeting.
(iv) General Meetings shall be chaired by the Chairperson. Otherwise the Executive Committee shall elect one of its members to chair the meeting.
(v) A quorum for a General Meeting shall be 5 parents.
6. EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE:
The committee shall elect it’s own officers, consisting of:
1. Chairperson
2. Vice Chairperson
3. Secretary 4. Assistant Secretary
5. Treasurer
6. Assistant Treasurer within six weeks of the A.G.M.
(a) The Chairperson at any meeting shall have a casting vote only.
(b)The Honorary Treasurer shall keep an account of all income and expenditure and shall submit reports and accounts to each meeting.
(c) The committee shall have power to co-opt members to fill any vacancies which occur on the committee.
(e) The Executive Committee may invite to General meetings or to committee meetings such persons as the Committee decides.
(f) Minutes of all meetings shall be kept by the Hon. Secretary who shall present the minutes to the Committee for approval at a subsequent Committee meeting.
7. Rules
The Parents’ Assoiation shall be apolitical.
(a) The Parents Association shall not have the power to deal wih complaints against members of the school staff (such complaints should be taken directly to the Principal by the parents concerned) and shall not interfere with the purely professional aspects of the school administration and work.
(b) No alteration of the rules may be made except at the A.G.M. or at a special General Meeting called for this purpose. No alteration of amendment shall be made to the objectives clause or dissolution clause which would cause the Parents Association to cease to be a charity of law.
8. OFFICIAL STATEMENTS AND REPRESENTATIONS:
No member of the Association other than the Chairperson or member nominated either by the Chairperson or by the Executive Committee shall make any official or public statement or representation on behalf of the Association.
9. LIAISON WITH SCHOOL AUTHORITIES:
Liaison with School shall normally be maintained through correspondence by the Secretary, or by deputation nominated by the Chairperson or Executive Committee, with the Principal or the school and/or his nominees.
The Principal or Deputy Principal may attend meetings when deemed necessary.
The Executive committee may, however, should it consider it desirable and appropriate, correspond, in writing, or seek a meeting with the Board of Management.
10. The Association in discharging its functions recognise that the examination and resolution of problems relating to individual pupils or parents will be for determination between the individual pupil and/or his parents and the School Authorities.
The Association also recognises that matters concerning the School Curriculum and its implementation are the function of the School Authorities.
13. The Executive Committee shall present a report of its activities during the preceding year, including a financial statement to the Annual General Meeting.
