ASD Classes
Our Early Intervention Unit for Children with Autism opened in September 2007. We opened a second class for children between the ages of 6-9 in September 2008 and a class for children between the ages of 9-12 in September 2010.
There is a maximum enrolment of 6 children in each class supported by one Teacher and two Special Needs Assistants.
The needs of the children in these classes are targeted through the provision of a broad and balanced curriculum.
We work on an individual programme for each child incorporating both academic and clinical goals.
Clinical support is provided by Beechpark Services.
We offer an eclectic model of autism-specific approaches, including:
- TEACCH (a visual, structured teaching approach)
- ABA (a behavioural approach, using task analysis and positive reinforcement)
- Sensory Integration (exercises to promote healthy sensory processing)
- PECS (picture exchange communication)
- Lamh (augmentative sign language) -Social Stories (creating stories to teach social skills to children with autism.)
- Intensive Interaction / Floortime / Marte Meo / Hanen (approaches that enhance communicationandsocialisation by building on the childs lead.
